Stegbar 400
Canberra, ACT.
Friday June 7th - Sunday June 9th, 2002.
Woohoo - the long weekend!!
I finished work at 3pm on friday, and headed straight home to pack.
I was planning on leaving my house spot on 6pm, for the trip down to canberra.
My mate Vince turned up at around 5:15pm, and loaded all his gear into
my car, then Mick turned up to follow me out to liverpool (where I was
meeting up with some people from the Tickford club). Unfortunately my house
mate who wanted to come along was not quite ready yet, and we all ended
up waiting over an hour for her to pack her bags.
The drive down wasnt too bad. It was a little drizzly, but as soon as
we crossed the border into the ACT it started pouring down.!
We arrived at the hotel at 10:30pm (we had stopped twice on the way
down). It was pouring rain, dark and cold. The hotel advised us the car
park was full, and we could park on the grass. Unfortunately the grass
at the front was on a slight slope, and I was having a few traction problems,
which resulted in my car, and the part of a wall getting covered in mud.
Saturday morning, I was awake at 5am. We all met outside the hotel at
6am and then left to go to IMG headquarters to get our tickets and car
passes. We set up our display next to the ford merchandise tent, washed
our cars down, and headed out to watch the races.
At 11:20, we had to line up to do our lap of the track. We waited for
about 45 mins before we could get on the track. I must say - that was the
best fun!! Roaring around the track the sound of the exhausts echoing off
the concrete barricades either side of you was cool!! Vince couldnt get
the smile off his face for the rest of the weekend.
Sunday we got to sleep in a little... 5:45am I woke up. out of the hotel
at 6:30am. We set up our display next to the ford merchandise tent again.
It was freezing, and very windy, and spent a lot of the day inside the
ford tent next to the heaters.
Unfortunately Ford didn't win the day, but we all had a great time.
And the nice sleep in monday was just the thing I needed after it all.
