LS1.com.au Go Kart Day Kembla Grange, NSW. Saturday December 14th, 2002 I had been looking forward to going to the go karts for a while, but with only a couple of weekends left before Summernats, my car was in the workshop getting a few mods done, and I didn't think I was going to be able to go. 7:40 am Saturday morning the ringing of my mobile wakes me up..."HSV8" is on the line telling me that "Monario" is on his way over to get me. I quickly get dressed, and at 8am, I hear the roar of a 5.7L Monaro pulling up my driveway. We make a quick call to find out where the rest of the guys are to try and meet up with them somewhere along the way, and to my amazement, they are at a set of traffic lights about 200m away. We caught up with them and cruised to the meeting point in Heathcoate to meet up with the "southerners". A couple of photographers from Street Commodores turned up (one of them in a brand new VY Clubsport) and then we headed off. When we got to the go kart track all the commodores (and 1 astra) lined up for a quick photoshoot before all the guys put on there race suits (ok... overalls) and helmets and hit the track. I was busy filming the action when my phone rang, my mechanic was moving my car, and the high pressure power steering hose blew. He then told me that he had already called ford, and they couldn't get the part in for another 3 days. "No problems" I replied "I got one of those hoses at home". (My mechanic didn't believe me) After 4 sessions of karts, the guys posed for a few more photo's before heading over to maquarie pass. We let one of the photographers go up first, so he could set up his camera part way up and film the action. After 10 mins we all roared up the mountain (making as much noise as possible) and then all stopped off at the Robertson pie shop for some pies, more chit chat, and then headed back home. "Monario" dropped me back home, I ran in grabbed the high pressure power steering hose, walked over to my mechanics, and gave him the hose. My car was all better in 10 mins, and I could drive it home again. |
