High Performance Drive Day

Oran Park, NSW.

Saturday July 31st, 2004

Another very early morning. I am think I am addicted to cars. Tim "EDXR6" and Mark "Wulos" turned up at my place bright and early, in my wagon (I lent it to them yesterday) We all bundled into the XR, and headed out to Oran Park.

Having 3 ED XR owners in one car was defiantly interesting. We were debating on which colour was superior (Both Tim and I own Poly Green, and Mark has a cobalt blue - the same as my wagon), and whether or not the XR6 is quicker (Tim and Mark were trying to gang up on me on that one, till I reminded them it was a long walk home :P)

It didn't take too long to get to Oran park, and we sat down for the usual briefing, followed by the walk around the track. It wasn't long before it was time for action.

I did a couple of 20 min sessions, while Mark and Tim watched, and took photos. Then I decided to get out the video camera, and film for a bit. Dave "Mr Sideways" kindly volunteered to drive me around in his beautiful 347 stroker Sprint (yes - another EDXR owner). I sweet talked the head driving instructor Brad (the guy who drove the GT's in the new FPV add) into taking Tim for a few hotlaps, while Dave and I followed, with me trying to keep the camera steady.

Towards the end of the day we did the slalom. It was fun as always, and I hit my first witches hat (silly me listened to someone who told me to change to 2nd, and I didn't go as well, as when I leave it in 1st). We also did a consistency comp, where we do 5 laps - 1 warm up, 3 times, and 1 cool down. The person with the most consistent time wins. All my laps were with in 5 hundredths of a second of each other (I was 2nd), and the winner had all there laps within 1 hundredth of a second of each other.

Right at the end, we ran 0 - 100's and 1/4's, using a G-tech. I am not sure how accurate they are, but 15.0 @ 101.7MPH seems a bit wrong to me ( my previous best was 13.9 @ 102MPH on slicks, and 14.4@ 99 on road tyres at eastern creek) However, my car had the highest MPH there, so I was happy. :D

There are a few vid's on the video page. Cant wait to get back out there again!!

Brad's XR6T, with the Sprint in close pursuit.
Mark went mad, and did a photoshoot of my helmet.
